Bookstore Renaming Continues Scottish Tradition

Senior Nicole Rohrkemper of Macomb stayed with a Scottish theme in a contest to rename the campus bookstore. Her winning suggestion of Kiltie Korner replaced Scot Shop in the contest conducted by the new management, Nebraska Book Company (NBC).

Announced during an open house October 7, Rohkemper won a $100 gift certificate beating out submissions offering more than fifty possible names. The original list was narrowed to five possible names with the winner determined by a vote of the campus.

After assuming operation in July, NBC renovated and redesigned the bookstore with new flooring, television sets and a brighter atmosphere through better lighting. A Web portal for students to send photos and video through e-mail also was installed.

Spring Term at Alma is a one-month immersion on a single academic topic that offers learning experiences not typically available during the more traditional 15-week fall and winter terms. For example, during Spring Term ’08, students toured cultural sites in Argentina, studied lizards in Jamaica, analyzed World War II topics at the British National Archives in London, performed music in Italy, and examined the natural wonders of New Zealand.
