Volleyball Team Climbs in Division III Poll

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released its Top 25 poll for this week (October 6), and the Alma College volleyball team is ranked number 22nd in the nation among Division III schools. Among the top 25 nationally ranked Division III teams, Alma College has the second best winning record at 20-0. Only New York University, the top ranked team, has a better record, 22-0.

Steve Humm, head coach of the Alma College volleyball team, believes this year is the first time that Alma College's volleyball team has been nationally ranked.

The volleyball team remains on top of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings with a 9-0 record. The women are aiming for a fourth straight conference title.

Elizabeth Priester Steding came to Alma College thinking she would become an elementary school teacher. Placing into third-year German changed her mind.

Now an assistant professor of German at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, she completed her master’s degree in German while teaching high school, through a summer program at University of California, Santa Barbara.
