Office of Chaplain Receives Grant

The Alma College Office of the Chaplain received a $2,760 grant from the Discipleship Ministries of the Presbytery of Lake Huron. The grant funded the Alma College Christian Leadership Training program (ACCeL) during the College's Preterm.

When the inaugural program was offered in 2003, 11 students participated in a week of training that included daily worship, plenary sessions, small group discussion and service projects, both on and off campus. This year 14 students participated in ACCeL.

Leadership for the week included Rev. Jeff O'Neill, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Alma; Rev. Keith Wise, pastor of the Church of God in St. Louis and Alma College adjunct professor of history; Susan Callaway, youth and family ministries director of the Church of God in Findlay, Ohio; Rev. Christine Vogel, Alma College chaplain; and Elizabeth Shaeffer, Alma College senior.

Alma College boasts a 12-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio, a liberal arts approach to undergraduate education, 28 academic majors, self-designed programs of emphasis, pre-professional programs in law and medicine, and an intensive Spring Term that provides opportunities for innovative courses, travel classes, research and internships.
