Group gathers at local restaurant

Cathy Ballentine (‘06), Zack Sabol (‘05), Becca Ylisto (‘06), and Ashey Gombar (‘08) enjoy a delicious meal at El Azteca

Waking up incredibly early, our group met in Gelston parking lot at 6:30 am. After cramming our belongings into the vans, finding seats and scraping ice off each windshield, we set off on our journey.

On the road, our fearless leader, Katie Stieber (Class of ‘06), led the way in a mini van, followed by another mini van driven by Dr. Navarro and the 15-passenger van bringing up the rear driven by DeeDee Stanbury. With a few stops for gas and bathroom breaks, lots of music, a movie (in the 15-passenger), and sack lunches, we followed the trails to Philadelphia.

The hills rose to the skies. Everything was coated with trees and the freeway cut right through the center of it. We drove over the highest altitude east of the Mississippi. The view throughout the trip was amazing.

Arriving in Philadelphia safely, we unpacked at the mansion, had a meeting with Craig (from Education Works) about what we are doing this week, and went out to dinner. We ate dinner at El Azteca, a Mexican restaurant in downtown Philly. After eating a fairly good meal, the waiters brought out a sombrero and a small cake and we sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to Megan. Philadelphia is magnificent and huge. Arriving back at the mansion around 11:30, we all settled down in our bunks and went to sleep. It has been an amazing first day.
