Before the Trip

Muddy Shoes
Our shoes after working at the Habitat House

At first glance, it seems that Alternative Break is just a one-week endeavor.  In all reality, the experience is more than just a service trip, it is also a chance to bond with peers from Alma College. It is important for the participants to spend time together before the actual trip, learning about the place we will be going and getting to know everyone. When the groups leave for the trip they will have already spent much time together.

On Saturday, February 5th we, the participants from the Kentucky trip, volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. We spent time putting siding on a house as well as framing a room in the basement. In March some participants of our trip will be participating in Relay for Life in order to continue the bonding experience after we return.

Alma students can explore the environmental wonders of the Galapagos Islands, practice Spanish language skills, study Ecuadorian culture, complete coursework in business finance, and fulfill a South American internship in entrepreneurship through Alma College's one-of-a-kind partnership with Equatorialis University in Quito, Ecuador.
