In a blog post, religious studies faculty member Kate Blanchard writes, “Alan Miller defends the value of religious belief against the New Atheists, but seems to disapprove of all religious people who don’t therefore embrace his particular alternative. … Miller invites us to join in vigorous discussion, debate and even battle. To this invitation I reply: The Spiritual But Not Religious are here to stay. Get used to it.”

Students break down taboos surrounding mental illness.
The student organization Active Minds sponsors campus events to educate people about mental health issues and break down the taboos surrounding them. “When people hear words like bipolar, suicide, depression, they are scared away. But suicides have increased in the local community in recent years. People think that if you talk about it, it’s going to give people suicidal ideations, but that’s not true. Suicide is real. It’s now. We cannot ignore it,” said Jennifer Showers, licensed counselor at the Counseling and Wellness Center.
