Donors are giving less to Michigan colleges and universities.

Between 2009 and 2010, the most dramatic increases in Michigan’s charitable giving were at Northwestern Michigan College, Delta College and Alma College, with giving up 54 percent, 40 percent and 35 percent, respectively.

“For Division 3, some of the best pickups we get are kids who are thinking about D-1, and it’s not until after the state meet when the Division 1 doesn’t come through, and it’s at that point they consider a Division 3 program,” Hibbs said. “Michigan used to have a dozen programs, and some are starting to come back. At the high school level, the number of athletes participating does not match the opportunity to wrestle at a college level.”

Arnie Bransdorder won’t be forgotten.

Alma College plans more involvement with community.

The College is planning to open a campus bookstore, coffee and sandwich shop on the corner of Superior Street and Wright Avenue. In addition, the College is committed to offering more internships in the local community. “We want [students] to come to Alma and act as a native of the place. How can they help bring this place to thrive?” said President Jeff Abernathy.
