In the 1990s, Reed College and Alma College led a movement to boycott the rankings. This year, Alma is ranked 137th in the national liberal arts category.

Mystery barrels hold radioactive acid.

Melissa Strait, Alma College professor of chemistry, said phosphoric acid isn’t that dangerous of a substance. “The phosphoric acid isn’t the big deal—that it’s radioactive is,” she said.

Kate Blanchard writes book on theology and capitalism.

“The book looks at Calvin’s theology with an eye toward his economic teachings and compares it to the teachings of Adam Smith and the Chicago school of economics,” said Blanchard, a member of the religious studies faculty at Alma College.

It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words, but what’s the look on a patient’s face worth? For Claire Swift, it’s priceless.

The Grand Rapids junior, who is pursuing a career in medicine, recently completed hospital rotations at Mid Michigan Health Center—Gratiot. She says observing a patient with Parkinson’s disease was something she’ll never forget.
