Food for thought: Students challenged to consider where their food comes from.
Alma College used a Lilly Endowment grant through the Association of Presbyterian Colleges and Universities to explore globalization and food. Students went on field trips to the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and area farms. “The main goal was to make students think more abut their food and where it comes from,” said faculty member Kate Blanchard

Quote by Alma Associate Professor Tom Ealey: “Many fraud complaints from residents and families are either wrong or not well articulated. The feds do a good job on major systematic fraud, but not so good on individual cases. Eversmann recounts battle that inspired ‘Black Hawk Down.’
Former Army Ranger Matt Eversmann spoke at Alma College on Veterans Day. Eversmann said that with two wars going on now, the faces of the soldiers have changed but they are the "best of America." Calling them "selfless servants," he said, "That's why we're blessed. We have a lot to be thankful for."

More than 100 Alma College students and staff traveled to destinations in South Carolina, Kansas, Tennessee, and Texas for service projects during winter break in February 2009. "Alternative Break service experiences continue to gain popularity on Alma College's campus," says Sallie Scheide, assistant director in the Center for Responsible Leadership.
