Joe Moscheck is originally from Allen Park, Michigan. His educational background includes Bachelor of Music Education from Alma College and a Master’s in Instrumental Performance from Oklahoma City University.
While at Alma College, Joe studied with David Zerbe and performed with the Alma College Percussion Ensemble, the Kiltie Marching Band, the Kiltie Wind Ensemble and Alma Symphony Orchestra as principal timpanist, the Alma College Jazz Ensemble, as an instrumentalist with the Alma College Choirs, and as a guest with the Alma College Saxophone Quartet.
With the Alma College Percussion Ensemble, Joe has recorded a double-CD titled Both Sides Now in 2008, and a live DVD in 2009. Among his awards and honors, Joe received awards as an outstanding soloist at the Notre Dame Collegiate Jazz Festival each year from 2007-2010 and won the Alma Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition in 2010.
After graduating from Alma, he studied with Dr. David Steffens at Oklahoma City University. At OCU, Joe performed regularly with several university ensembles, including regular appearances with the OCU Musical Theater. While living in Oklahoma, Joe also performed with the Enid Symphony Orchestra, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, the Oklahoma Repertory Theater, and an appearance at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival with the Legacy Percussion Orchestra.
Joe has also traveled extensively while working as an orchestra musician with Celebrity Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Lines between 2012 and 2014. Outside of performing, Joe has remained active as an educator and arranger for various band programs in Michigan and Oklahoma and also instructs with the Hohner Institute of Percussion.
Currently, Joe is assisting David Zerbe at Alma College where he runs the drum line, assists with the percussion ensemble, and teaches private lessons.
