In my role as the Social Media Strategist, I run Alma College’s official social media accounts. These include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Tumblr and others! For the full list of social media accounts, see our Scots on Social Media page.
Your favorite social media platforms?
Instagram and Snapchat! I actually didn’t have either until I started working at Alma.
What social media platform do you see getting “big” in the future?
Who knows? Snapchat is one. A recent study found that 77 percent of college students use Snapchat daily. Very few colleges have jumped on board, and there’s a lot of opportunity there. I dream of starting to use Snapchat stories for scavenger hunts, prizes and other fun things. The University of Michigan is among the “pioneer” colleges using it, and they’re doing some awesome things. I’d love to do the same at Alma!
What’s the weirdest part of your job?
Walking around on campus and recognizing students that Alma College follows or interacts with on social media. It’s weird because I recognize them, but they have no idea who I am!
What makes you laugh about social media?
When prospective students get really excited that Alma College replied to them or retweeted them, so they take a screenshot of the notification and tweet it. (Tweet-ception!) Or when I say things like “woot” or “we can’t even” or “we’re beyond excited,” and students think it’s hilarious that the college is speaking “their language.”
Fun facts about yourself?
I have been known to bake octuple batches of cookies for my 18 housemates.
