My hometown is

Fort Gratiot, MI

My major(s):

Biochemistry

I'm involved in:

I am on the executive board of Phi Sigma Sigma, Biology Club, and Chemistry Club, and I am also a tutor.

After I graduate I plan to

I plan to go to graduate school to pursue a Ph.D. in either Medicinal Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Chemical Biology. From there I am not sure if I would like to teach, work in the pharmaceutical industry or possibly for NIH or the FDA, but I am hoping my journey in graduate school will help me make my decision.

My favorite place on campus is

It will sound nerdy, but honestly, my favorite place on campus is the Dow/Kapp building. I have spent so much time there throughout my education that it has almost become a second home. The Dow/Kapp building is a place where I can study, do research, eat, and just hang out— it’s great!

Some of my favorite professors include

My favorite professors are Dr. Beckmann, Dr. Calhoun and Dr. Turk. They have all made a significant impact on guiding me to my decision that graduate school is where I am meant to be.

So far, my favorite class(es) has/have been

Medicinal Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Pharmacology.

My greatest accomplishment at Alma is

I am proud of the fact that I have presented research that I did at Alma at a National ACS conference. Not only was it a fantastic experience, but it was also another factor in helping me to decide that I wanted to go to graduate school.

I'd advise an Alma freshman to

A piece of advice I would give to a freshman is to not treat your classes like classes, instead treat them like they are preparing you for your future, even if it isn’t in your major. The class will have a stronger impact and learning the material then becomes an essential thing for you to do.
