Students Present Creative Work at National Convention

Seven Alma College students traveled to Savannah, Ga., to present their creative work at the Sigma Tau Delta English honorary convention Feb. 26 through March 1.

Warren junior Lisa Folkmire was awarded third place in the Outstanding Original Poetry section at the awards banquet and earned $150 for her presented collection, called “Page-Pressed Primroses.”

In addition, Lisa, as well as Shelby Township junior Sara Day, Allegan senior Jacob Hammer, Louisville junior Jocelyn Kirk, Romeo senior Hannah Korell, Bad Axe senior Jessica McLeod, Bad Axe senior, and Harrietta senior Christina Rann all presented strong papers and presentations, said Dana Aspinall, faculty advisor.

“They read their works with poise and confidence and fielded questions from their respective audiences with intelligence and grace,” said Aspinall. “They were fantastic.”

Aspinall also was recognized with a plaque for his 15th year as a Sigma Tau Delta chapter sponsor, including the last eight years at Alma College.
