Dance Company Presents Student Choreographers’ Concert

January 06, 2014

Students plan and produce the annual show — from the choreography to the lighting to the performing. The students have “gone above and beyond our expectations and created a beautiful show,” says Kristen Bennett, faculty advisor.

Dance styles of every kind — from ballet and tap to jazz and contemporary — will highlight this year’s Student Choreographers’ Concert at Alma College.

The Alma College Dance Company presents the annual show at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17 and Saturday, Jan. 18 and 3 p.m. Jan. 19 in the Remick Heritage Center Dance Studio.

Admission is free and open to the public, though seating is reserved and limited. Call (989) 463-7304 for ticket information.

Alma College dance students plan and produce the annual show — from the choreography to the lighting to the performing. The students have “gone above and beyond our expectations and created a beautiful show,” says Kristen Bennett, dance faculty advisor.

“There are huge benefits to the students having the opportunity to produce their own concert,” says Bennett. “They are learning about creating a dance, teaching it to their peers, and dealing with all aspects of production.

“The student choreographers’ concert is an incredible source of pride for our students, as they do all of the work themselves,” says Bennett. “They have very little input from the dance faculty, just guidance when needed. They learn the ins and outs of a production, and how to work as a company.”
