Second City Comedy Troupe Performs at Alma

“Second City has been a kind of feeder program to Saturday Night Live. Many Second City alumni have gone on to fame and stardom on SNL.” — Ben Grohs

Cutting-edge improvisation, audience interaction, of-the-moment sketches and a chance to see a new generation of comedy stars will highlight an upcoming performance of Chicago’s Second City Touring Company at Alma College.

The legendary comedy troupe presents “We’re All in this Room Together” at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14 in the Remick Heritage Center. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors 62 and up, and free for Alma College staff, students and youth 18 and under. Seating is reserved. Call (989) 463-7304 for ticket information.

No topic or subject matter is off limits for Second City. The presidential election and other topics from the worlds of politics, entertainment and media are fair game. Because of the improvisational nature of the perfomance, no two shows are alike.

“Improvisational comedy is an hilarious form of humor that one normally would have to go to a big city comedy club to experience,” says Ben Grohs, the technical director of the Remick Heritage Center. “Second City has been a kind of feeder program to Saturday Night Live. Many Second City alumni have gone on to fame and stardom on SNL.”

Founded in Chicago in 1959, The Second City has become the premier training ground for the comedy world’s best and brightest performers. The alumni list reads like a who’s who of American comedy, including comedy superstars Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell, Gilda Radner, Bill Murray, John Belushi, Dan Ackroyd, Martin Short, John Candy, Chris Farley, Mike Meyers, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and countless others.
