An open house for the renovated Alma College Bookstore and Starbucks on the corner of Superior Street and Wright Avenue in Alma will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19 with store promotions, discounts, pastry samples and raffles.

A brief presentation will take place at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome.

The Alma College Bookstore has been on this location since 2011, but Starbucks, which opened Aug. 15, is a new addition this fall. The coffee shop offers the typical Starbucks menu options with in-store wi-fi and expanded seating that accommodates personal laptop and computer connections.

“The launch of Starbucks with our bookstore continues our commitment to link the college with the downtown business area,” says Alma College President Jeff Abernathy. “We believe Starbuck’s strong national brand will have a positive impact on the campus and the community.”

The Starbucks’ franchise operates independently from Alma College under the auspices of Sodexo, the college’s food-service provider for more than 65 years. About 75 percent of the shop’s employees are Alma College students.

“We’re here to serve both the Alma community and the Alma College students, faculty and staff,” says Burt McAtee, general manager of Sodexo Dining Services at Alma College. “This store is for everyone, whether it is to enjoy a coffee beverage at Starbucks or peruse the books and apparel available in the bookstore.”

Starbucks hours are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Fall bookstore hours beginning Sept. 6 are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
