Students carefully excavate at the site of Old Main, one of Alma’s original buildings that was built in 1866 and burned in a fire in 1969. The students found pieces of cement, charcoal, glass, wire, a wood plank, a handle and other artifacts. “We started out as friends, but we became family,” says one student. The “Michigan Archaeological Fieldwork” class was taught by professors Mary Theresa Bonhage-Freund and Alexandra Connell.
