Psychology courses have been offered at Alma College since its beginning. In 1890, it was taught by Rev. Henry E. Butler, Wells professor of Mental and Moral Science. A few years later, it was taught by Dr. Bruske, the second president of the College and Wells Professor of Philosophy and Theism.

Psychology continued as a satelite of Philosophy until 1956 when the College established a separate Department.

1956 - Paul Storey, Dean of Men with Dr. & Mrs. Henry Klugh. house parents for Wright Hall. in Wright Hall lounge. Dr. Klugh was hired to establish a modern scientific Psychology Department. He chaired the department for a quarter century.

visual illusions on the Tektronix 4012         !! Our first graphics terminal. The 4012 had a bright green CRT with persistent phosphor like a storage oscilloscope. The 700x100 resolution was way ahead of its time, but there was no partial erasure. To make any change in the image, you had to erase the entire screen and redraw.

' When I wrote to my undergraduate advisor that I had taken a job at Alma College, he responded that he knew of the school because there was a man there named Klugh who had written the best statistics text he had ever used. Using Tinbergen's book as a sort of dictionary, you can, in a few days, learn the bird's entire language.

We camped two miles down the beach from the colony. We had the campground (in fact, the entire island) to ourselves.
