ART 399 / 499

Directed Studios offer more independence from the regular classroom, you still have Professor whom instructs and guides your progression; typically with weekly a one-on-one session and a weekly group review consisting of the art professor and other students he or she is directing that term.

Directed Studios are either offered as sign-up or proposal. Certain Directed Studios are only offered in Fall or Winter, sign-up sheets will be posted on art professor’s doors or the lobby. One can also write up a proposal for a Directed Studio in the field they wish to explore and present it to one of the art professors (usually your Advisor if you’re an art major) who will suggest which art professor would best help fulfill the goals for the Directed Studio.

At Mid-Terms, completed and in-progress work is displayed by those with Directed Studios. A mandatory Mid-Term Directed Review takes place, where upon the art professors, and students with Directed Studios, assemble for a group critique. It is highly recommended of all art students and art majors to attend even if they are not in a Directed Studio.

Mid-Term Review is a time for feedback, guidance, and fresh perspectives. It helps refine your objectives and goals.

End of Term Review, much like Mid-Term review work is displayed, but now only completed work that is matted or otherwise fitted for display. As before mandatory attendance of all students in Directed Studios and again it is highly recommended that all art students attend.

It should be noted that Mid-Term Review and End of Term Review take the place of Mid-Term exam and a final exam.
