MA in Art Therapy Counseling from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville
Profession: Admissions Counseling
Location: Grand Rapids, MI

"I received my BFA with a focus in painting from Alma in 2003. After Alma I continued my education at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's Art Therapy Counseling Masters Degree Program. I graduated with my MA this past May 2006. I always knew that I wanted to work in the arts, and I went into Art Therapy to be able to work with both children and adults that also have a passion for the visual and creative arts. I won't take the time to explain what Art Therapy is, but the National Associations web page is www.arttherapy.org, or google it, and check out http://jobs.aol.com/article/_a/10-hot-jobs-for-2007/20060822125209990005 .
"After receiving my MA I decided I wanted to assist students who wanted to pursue careers in the arts so I took an Admissions Counseling position with the Kendall school of Art and Design in Grand Rapids Michigan. This is were I am currently working, and if you have any questions about art therapy or the best path to take to becoming an art therapist feel free to contact me at emmslo@yahoo.com. Just a little pointer, I know that Alma being a liberal arts college helped me get into a highly competitive grad school program 8 out of the 10 of us in my MA program were from liberal arts schools."
