class of 2001
BFA in Art and Design (life drawing and illustration); MFA in Biomedical Visualization from U. of Michigan
Profession: Medical Illustrator

"As a medical illustrator, I needed a strong foundation in biomedical science and fine art before applying to one of the very few graduate programs in my field. Alma offered a unique balance of study between those two distinct disciplines within a setting that allowed my personal path to take shape. Unlike larger colleges and universities I was much more than a number plugged in to a pre-formed course of study, I was a unique individual with unique talents and goals. The guidance of Bob Rozier in particular among the Art & Design faculty has been a treasured part of my growth and we continue our friendship today. I am now several years out from my graduate study at the University of Michigan's Biomedical Visualization program. I am a well-paid Medical Illustrator and Program Manager for a small company in Ann Arbor within a niche as unusual as I am, and I am on my way to taking over as Executive Director in the coming months. In the future I will be returning to academia to pursue my PhD in health behavior visualization research. Alma gave me much more than a academic foundation, it provided an excellent atmosphere in which to grow my independence and flesh out my dreams. You CAN make a decent living as an artist!"
