"After graduation in '76, I spent a year and a half doing construction, moved to Grand Rapids and found work first in a portrait studio, then a camera store, then a commercial photo studio. In 1979 I partnered with another photographer to open a commercial studio, Imageworks. In 1981, started Huyck Photography (on my own, and still in Grand Rapids), and did general advertising and design oriented photography on my own until merging with 2 other similar studios in 2004 to form Green Frog Photo. We do advertising, catalog and corporate photography, with specialties in industrial, food and small tabletop product.

"The best thing about being a student at Alma [was the] sense of community with the other students, and with the faculty- being able to know most people on campus. Also, with the range of  studies available, being able to try (and benefit from) several areas before settling on a major.

"Words of wisdom for aspiring artists: Good Luck! Always remember that there is Fine Art and Commercial Art- and that most fine artists have either a day job or a patron that supports them; and most commercial artists will have to be self-employed at least some of the time."
