Performance Scholarships in Art ($1,000-$2,000)
Renewable through four years, the student must satisfy the following requirements:
1. Prospective Student (to apply for the first year) Due March 1
Submit a portfolio containing 8-10 examples of best work. Good slides or photographs of the work are acceptable if the original work is not available or if it is too fragile to send.
Include in the portfolio a "self-portait without showing your face". This can be any size, any medium.
2. First Year Student (for renewal for the sophomore year) Due March 1
Have a work chosen for inclusion in the Student Show when work is juried by the faculty and student representatives at the end of fall or winter terms, or
Have work accepted into a juried exhibition outside of the College, or to a juried art fair, or to the Pine River Anthology, or to another publication.
3. Sophomore Year (for renewal for the junior year) Due March 1
Have work chosen for inclusion in the Student Show as in "2" above.
Have a work accepted in at least one juried art exhibition or publication, or participate in a juried art fair. (To be chosen in a competetive situation to receive a commission for design work outside the Department would also fulfill this requirement).
4. Junior Year (for renewal for the senior year) Due March 1
Have work chosen for inclusion in the Student Show as in "2" above.
Have work accepted in at least two juried exhibitions or publications, as described in "3" above.
Distinguished Performance Scholarships in Art (up to full tuition)
Each year, one incoming student who has already submitted a portfolio and received a Performance Scholarship in Art may be recommended for the Distinguished Scholarship in Art and may receive up to full tuition.This scholarship is also renewable for four years. In addition to fulfilling the requirements for the Performance Scholarship in Art listed above, recipients of this scholarship:
Maintain an over GPA of 3.0, and a GPA in art courses of 3.5.
Will be strongly advised to pursue a BFA in Art & Design or to commbine a major in Art with another major or minor or teaching certification.
Beck Scholarship ($5,000, renewable)
For Emmet County, Michigan residents who are planning to study Visual or Performing Arts at Alma. Audition or Portfolio review is required for Application. For renewal, see requirements for renewing Performance Scholarships in Art, above.
