Steve Kuhlman Leads Scots at Disney Classic

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Alma College men's cross country team traveled to Orlando, Fla., for the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic on Oct. 7, finishing 21st overall.

The Scots were led by Steve Kuhlman (Battle Creek/Lakeview) who crossed the line in 28:07.29 to place 91st in a pack of 239 runners. Other competitors came from schools including Central Florida, Florida Southern, The Citadel, Hofstra, Johns Hopkins and Texas A&M, among others.

Other team scorers for the Maroon and Cream included Steve Rose (Essexville/Garber) with a time of 28:29.48, Wade Peacock (Beulah/Benzie Central) with a time of 28:31.29, Alex Montoye (Mt. Pleasant) with a time of 29:08.98, Ben McMurray (Petoskey) with a time of 29:20.84, Kyle Hill who finished in 29:28.35 while Matt Foley (Hartland/Powers) finished in 29:35.61.

Runners who did not count towards team scoring include

Students at Alma College can get involved in any of nearly 100 campus organizations, including fraternities and sororities, student government, academic honorary societies, campus media, intramural sports, the performing arts and worship groups.

 

Coach Profile

Gordon Aldrich

Gordon Aldrich was a late addition to the Alma College Coaching Staff in the summer of 2007. Coach Aldrich has joined the Alma College Family as the Cross Country and Track and Field Head Coach.

During his 26 years as a varsity Boy’s and Girl’s Cross Country Coach, Aldrich has won a Girls Open State Championship (1978), a Girls State Championship (1995), two Boy’s State Championships (1994, 1997), and was Runner-up on seven other occasions. During the same time, Aldrich coached teams to 17 conference championships, was nominated for the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association Coach of the Year 12 times for cross country, and walked away with the award four times (1994, 1995, 1996, and 1998). He was also named the Boy’s Cross Country National Coach of the Year in 1999 by the National Federation Interscholastic Coaches Association.

Aldrich was also honored with Michigan High School Coaches Association Track Coach of the Year in 1985 and 1998, and has received the Charles Sweeney Michigan Coaches Hall of Fame Track and Field Award.
