SCOTS WOMEN'S TENNIS LOSES TO ST. PETERSBURG COLLEGE

The Alma Women’s Tennis team continued their Florida trip on Wednesday when they dropped a 7-2 match against a tough St. Petersburg College (FL) team and now have a record of 2-4 in the 2009 season. The Scots will wrap up the Orlando portion of their schedule when they play Capital University on Thursday before heading back home to Alma.

The Alma College Percussion Ensemble performed at the prestigious Centrum Jazz Festival, an international festival in Port Townsend, Wash., in July 2007. Alma was the only college group invited to perform. "It's a huge honor," says faculty director Dave Zerbe. "You can't apply to perform there; they seek you out."

Dennis Griffin

Dennis Griffin

Denny Griffin is heading into his 27th year at Alma College and his 20th at the helm of the Scots softball program. He moved into the head softball coaching position in 1989 after two years as assistant coach. His teams have never fallen lower than third place in conference standings and 12 of his last 14 teams have qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

In addition to his softball duties, Griffin is the program director for the Athletic Training Education Program. He teaches first aid/CPR and sports medicine classes in the Exercise and Health Science Department.
