ALMA WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM COMPETES IN DOUBLEHEADER ON TUESDAY

The Alma Women’s tennis team competed in a double header Tuesday in Orlando at 10:00 a.m. and then at 4:00 p.m..

The first match played was against Oneonta State University (NY) and the Scots won 6-3. The singles lineup was Laura McKendry at one, Amy Baranowski at two, Jen Meloche at three, Abby McCue at four, Emily Noss at five, and Heather Spratt at six. The doubles lineup was Laura McKendry  and Jen Meloche at one, Emily Noss and Kelsey Erwin at two, and Emi Allen and Lauren Stevenson at three. The results of the singles matches were 2-6; 0-6 for one singles, 1-6; 6-7 (4-7 tiebreaker), 6-1; 6-4 for three singles, 6-3; 7-5 for four singles, 6-3; 6-1 for five singles, and 6-0; 6-1 for six singles. The results of the doubles matches were 7-9 for one doubles, 8-4 for two doubles, and 8-2 for three doubles. Emi Allen and Lauren Stevenson proved to be a great team as they handled their court with an impressive 8-2 score.

The second match was played against Southeasten University. The Scots lost the tough match 4-5. The singles lineup was Laura McKendry at one, Amy Baranowski at two, Jen Meloche at three, Emily Noss at four, Heather Spratt at five, and Katy Rice at six. The doubles lineup was Laura McKendry and Jen Meloche at one, Amy Baranowski and Emily Noss at two, and Lauren Stevenson and Kelsey Erwin at three. The singles results were 3-6; 0-6 for one singles, 1-6; 1-6 for two singles, 3-6; 6-4; 5-7 for three singles, 2-6; 7-5; 2-6 for four singles, 6-0; 3-0 (injury) for five singles, and 6-3; 6-0; 5-7 for six singles. The doubles results were 8-6 for one doubles, 8-2 for two doubles, and 8-4 for three doubles.

Amy Baranowski and Emily Noss played extremely tough and conquered their match with a score of 8-2.

The Alma College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team claimed its ninth consecutive regional championship at the SIFE USA Regional Competition in March 2009. The competition awards the SIFE teams that are most effective in teaching the principals of market economics through outreach projects in their communities.

Chris Hamstra

Chris Hamstra

Coach Hamstra graduated from Hope College in 2004 with a B.A. in Accounting. During his time at Hope, Hamstra was a four year student-athlete, received All-MIAA honors and was also named to the All-American team. Hamstra was also a member of MIAA Championship teams and brings that winning attitude and work ethic to his new position.

After graduation, Hamstra served as an assistant coach for Hope’s Swimming and Diving Program under Dr. John Patnott. Hamstra credits Dr. Patnott with helping him to understand the science of swimming and also the importance of season long work out plans. “As an assistant in his program, I was given the freedom to implement my own workouts into the system, providing me with insight into what it takes to develop season long plans.”
