ALMA WOMEN'S TENNIS KNOCKS OFF WEBBER UNIVERSITY

The women’s tennis team played their third match of the season Monday against Webber International.  The Alma girls played tough and defeated Webber with a 8-1 victory. Abby McCue defeated her opponent with a score of 6-0; 6-0. Emily Noss also played an excellent match at four singles; the match proved Noss’ endurance as it lasted for over two hours.  Lauren Stevenson also competed well at three doubles and helped the team in the win over Webbet.
 
The singles lineup was Jenn Meloche at one singles, Laura McKendry at two singles, Amy Baranowski at three singles, Emily Noss at four singles, Abby McCue at five singles, and Heather Spratt at six singles. The doubles lineup was Laura McKendry and Jen Meloche at one doubles, Emily Noss and Kelsey Erwin at two doubles, and Lauren Stevenson and Amy Baranowski at three doubles. The results for singles was 5-7; 1-6 for one singles, 6-2; 6-4 for two singles, Injury defeat for three singles, 7-5; 6-3 for four singles, 6-0; 6-0 for five singles, and 6-0; 6-0 for six singles. The results for the doubles was 8-6 for one doubles, 4-1 (Retired) for two doubles, and 8-3 for three doubles. The overall team score was 8-1.
 
The women’s victory left the team primied for their doubleheader on Tuesday, as the Scots will try to snag two more wins on their Spring Break trip.

The Corporation for National and Community Service named Alma College to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll in both 2008 and 2009 for exemplary service efforts and service to disadvantaged youth. The Honor Roll is the highest federal recognition a school can achieve for its commitment to service-learning and civic engagement.

Jim Cole

Jim Cole ‘74 enters his 18th season at the helm of the Scots. In 2004, Cole led the Scots to the MIAA title and a berth in the NCAA Division III national playoffs, the second time in three years the Maroon and Cream advanced to the NCAA postseason.

A former All-MIAA and All-District quarterback for the Scots, Cole draws on the championship experiences of playing for the 1970, ‘71 and ‘72 MIAA co-champions and coaching the 1988 co-champ’s defense.

Cole sports a career mark of 105-67-0, making him Alma’s winningest football coach.
