WOMEN'S TENNIS CONTINUES FLORIDA TRIP

The Women’s tennis team played their second match of the season today in Orlando against Concordia-Moorhead University (MN). The Scots played competitively, but lost to Concordia by a score of 7-2.

The singles lineup for the match was Laura McKendry at one singles, Amy Baranowski at two singles, Jennifer Meloche at three singles, Abby McCue at four singles, Emily Noss at five singles, and Heather Spratt at six singles.

The doubles lineup was Laura McKendry and Jennifer Meloche at one doubles, Amy Baranowski and Emily Noss at two doubles, and Kelsey Erwin and Abby McCue at three doubles.

The results of the match was 6-2; 3-6; 0-6 for one singles, 2-6; 6-7 (2-7 in tiebreaker) for two singles, 2-6; 6-7 (5-10 in tiebreaker) for three singles, 0-6; 7-5; 4-6 for four singles, 7-5; 6-2 for five singles and 2-6; 0-6 for six singles.  The results for the doubles teams was 6-8 for one doubles, 7-9 for two doubles, and 3-8 for three doubles. 

Meloche played an excellent and exciting match against her opponent as she pulled ahead in the first set and played a very competitive second set to secure the win for the Scots.

The $10.2 million Hogan Center renovation and building project includes the construction of a new sports arena and convocation center along with renovated locker rooms, athletic training space, natatorium, coaches' offices and classrooms. The "new" Hogan is designed to be Alma College's first LEED-certified building for sustainable construction. The estimated completion date is August 2010.

Chris Hamstra

Coach Hamstra graduated from Hope College in 2004 with a B.A. in Accounting. During his time at Hope, Hamstra was a four year student-athlete, received All-MIAA honors and was also named to the All-American team. Hamstra was also a member of MIAA Championship teams and brings that winning attitude and work ethic to his new position.

After graduation, Hamstra served as an assistant coach for Hope’s Swimming and Diving Program under Dr. John Patnott. Hamstra credits Dr. Patnott with helping him to understand the science of swimming and also the importance of season long work out plans. “As an assistant in his program, I was given the freedom to implement my own workouts into the system, providing me with insight into what it takes to develop season long plans.”
