WOMEN'S TENNIS: Scots Get Another Win, Down St. Petersburg 6-3

The Alma College Women's Tennis Team has been doing more than holding their own on their spring trip in Orlando, Fl. won their third out of four, defeating St. Petersburg College by the score 6-3.

The Scots took the #2, #4, #5, and #6 singles and the #2 and #3 doubles. Freshman Kelsey Erwin (Fenton), who took the #4 match, got her first collegiate win in singles play as did fellow freshman Katy Rice (Lake Orion) who took the #6 match 6-1, 6-1.

The $10.2 million Hogan Center renovation and building project includes the construction of a new sports arena and convocation center along with renovated locker rooms, athletic training space, natatorium, coaches' offices and classrooms. The "new" Hogan is designed to be Alma College's first LEED-certified building for sustainable construction. The estimated completion date is August 2010.

Dennis Griffin

Denny Griffin is heading into his 27th year at Alma College and his 20th at the helm of the Scots softball program. He moved into the head softball coaching position in 1989 after two years as assistant coach. His teams have never fallen lower than third place in conference standings and 12 of his last 14 teams have qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

In addition to his softball duties, Griffin is the program director for the Athletic Training Education Program. He teaches first aid/CPR and sports medicine classes in the Exercise and Health Science Department.
