Alma Women's Tennis Falls To Spring Arbor 6-3

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Alma College women's tennis fell to Spring Arbor 6-3 Monday in East Lansing at the Michigan Athletic Club. The Scots are now 2-3 on the season.

Alma saw Lindsay Wagner (Lapeer/East) pick up the only singles win of the day with a hard fought 7-5, 7-6 (2-0) victory. Alma's only other wins came at two and three singles. Emily Noss and Laura Kendrick (Marysville) teamed up at two doubles for a 9-7 win and Betsy Bulthuis (Nunica/Spring Lake) and Laura McKendry (Canton) won 8-5 at three doubles.

Alma is 2-3 on the season and has lost three consecutive matches.

The Alma College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team claimed its eighth consecutive regional championship at the SIFE USA Regional Competition in March 2008. The competition awards the SIFE teams that are most effective in teaching the principals of market economics through outreach projects in their communities.

Jeff Hosler '02 joined the Alma College Athletics staff as the Scots women's soccer coach in 2006 and has helped the Maroon and Cream rise as one of the most talented young teams in the MIAA.

In his time at Alma, Hosler became one of the best players in the 30 years of Scots soccer. He remains the all-time assists leader and ranks in the top ten in career goals and in the top five in career points. He helped the Scots to their second MIAA title, first-ever NCAA Regional Championship and first-ever NCAA Final Four appearance in 1999 en route to first team All-MIAA and third team All-Mideast Region honors. He would go on to earn first team All-MIAA accolades again in 2001 and was named to the conference's second team in 2000.
