Alma Drops Back-to-Back Matches to Albion, Aquinas

ALMA, Mich. - The Alma College women's tennis team lost matches on back-to-back days with 9-0 losses to Aquinas on Tuesday and Albion on Wednesday.

The Scots played tough against Aquinas with number five Laura Powers taking Aquinas' Brielynn Hanna to 7-5, 6-1 and number six Avis Groath took Sarah Van Gessen to 6-7 (7), 6-2 (10-8).

Alma is now 2-7 on the season and 1-3 in MIAA action. They return to the court April 1 against Saginaw Valley State and Spring Arbor in Alma.

Jim Cole
Graduation: 1974

Jim Cole '74 enters his 17th season at the helm of the Scots. In 2004, Cole led the Scots to the MIAA title and a berth in the NCAA Division III national playoffs, the second time in three years the Maroon and Cream advanced to the NCAA postseason.

A former All-MIAA and All-District quarterback for the Scots, Cole draws on the championship experiences of playing for the 1970, '71 and '72 MIAA co-champions and coaching the 1988 co-champ's defense.

Cole sports a career mark of 105-67-0, making him Alma's winningest football coach.
