Scots Pick Up First MIAA Victory With 8-1 Win Against Adrian

LANSING, Mich. - The Alma College women's tennis team improved to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in MIAA action with an 8-1 win against Adrian College Tuesday afternoon in Lansing.

The Scots swept the Bulldogs in doubles action and made quick work of the Bulldogs in singles action.

At number one singles, Jessica Eichorn (Alma/Ithaca) took the opening set before falling to Lindsey Eshel for the only defeat of the match.

At number two, three and four singles, Laura Kendrick (Marysville), Kelly Schwartzkopf  (Dryden/Almont) and Lindsay Wagner (Lapeer/Lapeer East) did not allow a point by their Adrian competitors, as each won 6-0, 6-0.

At five singles Amanda Leppek (Almont) defeated Adrian's Leeann Brooks 6-1, 6-0 as Avis Groath (Clinton Twp./Frazer) rounded out the victory with a 6-4, 6-0 win against Ellen Kroll.

Alma is next scheduled to take on Aquinas, but the match will be rescheduled from its current March 16.

Students learn important leadership principles for the 21st century from internationally recognized speakers like Madeleine Albright and Vicente Fox and by participating in international study opportunities through inventive programs like the Center for Responsible Leadership and the Posey Global Leadership Fellows Program.

 

Coach Profile

Judd Folske

Judd Folske

Judd Folske is entering his first year as Alma College Head Baseball Coach in the 2007-2008 season after spending two years as an assistant coach with the program. Coach Folske joined the Maroon and Cream in the fall of 2005 after stops at NCAA Division I Central Michigan University, and stints at Div. II schools Saginaw Valley State University and Ferris State University. He also serves the athletic department as assistant athletic director.

While head coach of the CMU Chippewas, Folske posted a 131-98 mark. In 2000, he finished in a tie for first in the MAC conference with a record of 41-17 (18-8). Folske retired after the 2003 season at CMU, and went to work as an assistant at SVSU, where he worked in that capacity for two seasons.
