Alma Ends 2005 Season Tied for Sixth in MIAA

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Alma College women's tennis team ended its season at the MIAA Tournament over the weekend, ending the season tied for sixth with Olivet College.

Alma's Jessica Eichorn (Alma/Ithaca) at the three singles spot lost to Calvin's Annie Huizenga in the first round, 6-0, 6-2 before defeated Olivet's Lindsey Struble 1-6, 6-0, 6-0 in the consolation bracket. Eichorn ultimately fell to Ashley Leary of Hope in the consolation finals, 6-2, 6-2.

At four singles, Kristen Minter (Almont) opened the first round with a loss to Albion's Vicky Seiter, 6-1, 6-0 before defeating Tri-State's Kara Kaufman 6-3, 6-1. Minter would lose in the consolation finals to Kalamazoo's Laura Spencer 6-0, 6-1.

Highlighting the championship for the Scots was the doubles team of Laura Kendrick (Marysville) and Avis Groath (Clinton Twp./Frazer) who, despite losing to Calvin's Logan/Oosterhouse duo in the first round, battled back to win the consolation bracket by beating the three doubles team from Olivet and Saint Mary's.

 

Students at Alma College can get involved in any of nearly 100 campus organizations, including fraternities and sororities, student government, academic honorary societies, campus media, intramural sports, the performing arts and worship groups.

Judd Folske

Judd Folske

Judd Folske is entering his first year as Alma College Head Baseball Coach in the 2007-2008 season after spending two years as an assistant coach with the program. Coach Folske joined the Maroon and Cream in the fall of 2005 after stops at NCAA Division I Central Michigan University, and stints at Div. II schools Saginaw Valley State University and Ferris State University. He also serves the athletic department as assistant athletic director.

While head coach of the CMU Chippewas, Folske posted a 131-98 mark. In 2000, he finished in a tie for first in the MAC conference with a record of 41-17 (18-8). Folske retired after the 2003 season at CMU, and went to work as an assistant at SVSU, where he worked in that capacity for two seasons.
