Alma Women’s Soccer Receives NSCAA Team Academic Award for 9th Year in a Row

The Alma Women's Soccer Team has received the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2008-2009 academic year.  The NSCAA award is given out when an entire team posts a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

The Scots finished with an overall 3.20 team GPA for the '08-'09 academic year.  The team has received this award for all four years under Head Coach Jeff Hosler.  It is the ninth year in a row that the team has earned the honor, the longest streak in the MIAA conference. The Scots were the only league team to be on the list for the past academic year.

"I am extremely proud of this award, as it continues to demonstrate the girls' dedication to their academics," said Hosler. "We are at a point of setting a standard of expectation with our program, both on the field and off. This is something that we can show to parents and prospective athletes when we talk about the Alma experience."

The Alma College Percussion Ensemble performed at the prestigious Centrum Jazz Festival, an international festival in Port Townsend, Wash., in July 2007. Alma was the only college group invited to perform. "It's a huge honor," says faculty director Dave Zerbe. "You can't apply to perform there; they seek you out."
