SCOTS WOMEN'S SOCCER WINS AT OLIVET 3-1

The Alma College Women's Soccer team hit the road on Saturday and defeated host Olivet College, 3-1, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association contest at the Cutler Athletic Complex.

Alma's Elaine Cunningham put the Scots ahead 2-0 with a pair of goals in a span of three and a half minutes. The first one came at the 15:14 mark, and the second one came at 18:47.

Olivet got on the scoreboard in the 20th minute when sophomore Lizzy Julian blasted a shot from 35 yards out into the back, left corner of the goal. Alma’s Jessica Swan answered with a goal in the 26th minute. Swan's goal placed her second all-time for the Scots in total points and the score remained 3-1 at halftime. There was no scoring in the second half.

Alma stays on the road and will take on Saint Mary's College in a MIAA contest on Saturday afternoon, beginning a Noon.

Jeff Hosler ‘02 joined the Alma College Athletics staff as the Scots women’s soccer coach in 2006 and has helped the Maroon and Cream rise as one of the most talented young teams in the MIAA.

In his time at Alma, Hosler became one of the best players in the 30 years of Scots soccer. He remains the all-time assists leader and ranks in the top ten in career goals and in the top five in career points. He helped the Scots to their second MIAA title, first-ever NCAA Regional Championship and first-ever NCAA Final Four appearance in 1999 en route to first team All-MIAA and third team All-Mideast Region honors. He would go on to earn first team All-MIAA accolades again in 2001 and was named to the conference’s second team in 2000.
