SCOTS TIE MIAA OPENER WITH HOPE COLLEGE 0-0 IN 2 OVERTIMES

The Alma Women's Soccer team opened up MIAA play Wednesday afternoon when they hosted league rival Hope College at Scotland Yard. The two teams competed hard on a sunny, cool Mid-Michigan afternoon and the game ended in a 0-0 draw after 110 minutes of play.

"I thought we had some realy quality scoring chances and I believe we dominated play at times this afternoon," said Alma Head Coach Jeff Hosler. "We hit the crossbar a couple of times and Hope did well to clear the ball off of their goal line. I didn't think they had many quality scoring chances and there a lot of positive things to take out of this before we play another tough opponent, Albion, on Saturday."

F Jessica Swan led the team with five shots on goal

Alma led in shots on the afternoon with 19 (10 SOG) to the Flying Dutch's 11 (six SOG), with F Jessica Swan leading all players with nine shots, including five on goal. M Alli Meurer added six shots and four on goal for the the home team. GK Katie Weicksel played in the entire contest in net for Alma and had six saves.

The Scots will host Albion College on Saturday afternoon as they continue the MIAA schedule at Scotland Yard. The match is scheduled for a Noon start. Alma is now 4-5-2 (0-0-1 MIAA) on the season, while Hope is 4-4-1 (0-0-1 MIAA) in 2009.
