WOMEN'S SOCCER: Scots Fall to Hope, 0-1

Sept. 26, 2007 - The Scots traveled to Holland, Michigan today to take on the Flying Dutch of Hope College and came home with a 0-1 loss in a hard fought match.

The only goal in the game came in the 81st minute as a Hope player got behind the Scots defense and beat the Alma goalkeeper for the break away goal.  

Sophomore Katie Weicksel (Northville/Northville) played the entire game in the goal for the Scots and kept them in the game facing 13 shots and only giving up one goal.

The Scots offensive attack was led by sophomores Kelly Walsh (Linden/Fenton) and Tara Fitzsimmons (Marshall/Marshall) who both had multiple shots at the goal but couldn't find the back of the net.

The Scots travel to Albion on Saturday September 29 for a match scheduled to begin at noon.

The Alma College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team claimed its eighth consecutive regional championship at the SIFE USA Regional Competition in March 2008. The competition awards the SIFE teams that are most effective in teaching the principals of market economics through outreach projects in their communities.

Jeff Hosler '02 joined the Alma College Athletics staff as the Scots women's soccer coach in 2006 and has helped the Maroon and Cream rise as one of the most talented young teams in the MIAA.

In his time at Alma, Hosler became one of the best players in the 30 years of Scots soccer. He remains the all-time assists leader and ranks in the top ten in career goals and in the top five in career points. He helped the Scots to their second MIAA title, first-ever NCAA Regional Championship and first-ever NCAA Final Four appearance in 1999 en route to first team All-MIAA and third team All-Mideast Region honors. He would go on to earn first team All-MIAA accolades again in 2001 and was named to the conference's second team in 2000.
