WOMEN'S SOCCER: Scots defeat Huntington, Reach Last Years Season Win Mark

The Alma College Women's Soccer Team traveled to Indiana to take on Huntington University and came home with a 2-1 win. With the victory, the Scots improve to 4-1-1 on the season - already tying the wins total from a year ago.

Huntington University got on the board first with their only goal of the game in the tenth minute off of a break away. From then on, the Scots dominated the ball and in the 20th minute, freshman Veronica Femminineo (Troy/Bishop Foley) fed sophomore Tara Fitzsimmons (Marshall/Marshall) with a beautiful cross who then found the back of the net on a timer. The goal tied the score at 1-1 and the two teams took the tie into the end of the first period.

The Scots continued to dominate play in the second half and in the 65th minute Fitzsimmons got her own rebound and scored the unassisted go ahead, and eventual, game winning goal.

Freshman Alexandra Kirchner (Racine, Wis./Washington Park) played the first period for the Scots and played well. Sophomore Katie Weicksel (Northville/Northville) took over the net in the second period and had two key saves in the waining minutes that ensured the win for the Scots.

Alma out shot Huntington 22-7 and had 12 corner kicks to their 2.

The Scots return home for the Alma-Olivet Invitational this weekend. They play Rochester College on Saturday at noon for Parent's Day and Wilmington College on Sunday at 1 p.m.
