WOMEN'S SOCCER: Scots Defeat Northwood 3-1, Earn First Win Against DII Opponent in Program History

The Alma College Women's Soccer Team traveled to Northwood University and came home with the program's first win against a NCAA Division II opponent. The Scots won convincingly by the score: 3-1.

The Scots came out on the attack and scored at the eight minute mark when freshman Samantha Barsotti (Clinton/Frasier) found the back of the net off of a rebound from the shot of Veronica Femminineo (Troy/Bishop Foley), who was credited with the assist.

Northwood rallied to tie the game and the teams went into the half all even at 1-1. The Scots came out in the second period and went right back to work as Femminineo took a beautiful cross from freshman Jessica Swan (Romeo/Romeo) and beat the Northwood goalkeeper to go ahead 2-1 in the 52nd minute.

Six minutes later, the Scots put the game out of reach as Tara Fitzsimmons (Marshall/Marshall) threaded a pace into Swan who one touched it past the goalkeeper and rolled it into the goal.

Northville sophomore Katie Weicksel played all ninety minutes in the goal for the Scots and was key in the victory.

Coach Hosler also credited senior Kim Hoeltzel (Clawson/Clawson) in the win. "She came back from an injury to play in her first game and was a real calming influence on the team and logged some tough minutes for us."
