WOMEN'S SOCCER: Scots tie La Roche in Season Opener

Alma, Mi.- The Scots faced off against La Roche College in Pittsburg, PA for their season opener and came away with a 2-2 tie. The Scots had the run of play most of the day, but a late goal by La Roche forced Alma to settle for the tie.

The Scots got on the board first when freshman Jessica Swan (Rochester/Rochester) found the back of the net off of a rebound from a Tara Fitzsimmons (Marshall/Marshall) shot on goal in the 31st minute.

The Scots took the 1-0 lead into halftime, but a header off a La Roche corner kick tied things back up in the 70th minute.

Sophomore Kelley Walsh (Linden/Fenton) wasn't about to be left out of the action and gave the Scots 2-1 lead when she scored off of an Alma corner kick late in the second period.

Alma could almost taste the win, but a La Roche break away goal in the 88th minute tied things back up and ended the game in a 2-2 tie.

Overall Coach Jeff Hosler was pleased with his teams performance, "Our young players responded well in their first contest at this level, it was a good college match. We had lots of chances, we just need to do a better job of finding the back of the net."

The Scots take on Pointe Park tomorrow in their second game of the La Roche Invitational. Play is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
