Maroon and Cream Lose to Rowan (N.J.) 2-0 at Scotland Yard Opener

ALMA, Mich. - In the home opener for the Alma College women's soccer team, they put together a solid first half performance but could not claim the same in the second half. Alma fell to 1-3 on the season with a 2-0 loss to perennial nationally ranked Rowan University of New Jersey. 

 Held without a shot in the game, Rowan had 12 shots, scoring the first in the 32nd minute and adding an insurance goal in the 49th minute. 

 Goalkeeper Ivyrose Hess(Grand Rapids) had 10 saves with two goals against in 90 minutes in net.

Alma returns to action tomorrow (Sept. 10) when it hosts LaRoche at 1 p.m. at Scotland Yard.
 

 

The Alma College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team claimed its eighth consecutive regional championship at the SIFE USA Regional Competition in March 2008. The competition awards the SIFE teams that are most effective in teaching the principals of market economics through outreach projects in their communities.

Jeff Hosler '02 joined the Alma College Athletics staff as the Scots women's soccer coach in 2006 and has helped the Maroon and Cream rise as one of the most talented young teams in the MIAA.

In his time at Alma, Hosler became one of the best players in the 30 years of Scots soccer. He remains the all-time assists leader and ranks in the top ten in career goals and in the top five in career points. He helped the Scots to their second MIAA title, first-ever NCAA Regional Championship and first-ever NCAA Final Four appearance in 1999 en route to first team All-MIAA and third team All-Mideast Region honors. He would go on to earn first team All-MIAA accolades again in 2001 and was named to the conference's second team in 2000.
