Scots Continue To Roll With 3-0 Win In Home Opener

ALMA, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team (3-0-1, 2-0-0 MIAA) continued their undefeated ways Saturday (Sept. 10) with a 3-0 victory against Tri-State. Senior goalkeeper Pam McCarthy (Flushing/Powers Catholic) has now shut out opponents over four straight games.

The Scots got on the board in the 28th minute when Hannah Furman (Traverse City/Traverse City West) scored on an assist from Kim Hoeltzel (Clawson). Alison Tolly (Mason/Okemos) put up another goal in the 37th minute and Hoeltzel scored a goal of her own in the 62nd minute to give the Scots their final goal of the 3-0 shutout.

The Thunder got off just three legitimate shots with McCarthy and Brandi Wright (Holt) sharing time in the net.

The Scots return to action against MIAA opponent Kalamazoo College in K'zoo on Sept. 14.

Jeff Hosler '02 joined the Alma College Athletics staff as the Scots women's soccer coach in 2006 and has helped the Maroon and Cream rise as one of the most talented young teams in the MIAA.

In his time at Alma, Hosler became one of the best players in the 30 years of Scots soccer. He remains the all-time assists leader and ranks in the top ten in career goals and in the top five in career points. He helped the Scots to their second MIAA title, first-ever NCAA Regional Championship and first-ever NCAA Final Four appearance in 1999 en route to first team All-MIAA and third team All-Mideast Region honors. He would go on to earn first team All-MIAA accolades again in 2001 and was named to the conference's second team in 2000.
