Scots Victorious In Season-Opener With 1-0 Win Against Defiance

OBERLIN, Ohio - The Alma College women's soccer team opened the 2005 season with a 1-0 victory against Defiance Saturday (Sept. 3). Sophomore Rachel Dotson (Chelsea) scored the game-winning goal on an assist from junior Liz Daley (Lum/Lapeer East).

The Scots dominated throughout the game but struggled to find the back of the net until early in the second half when Daley found Dotson on a corner kick.

Alma returns to competition tomorrow (Sept. 4) against Heidelberg.

 

Alma College students are annual high achievers in the national Model United Nations competition. Alma has received Outstanding Delegation awards in each of the last 12 years (1997 through 2008) at the world’s largest and most prestigious collegiate Model UN Conference in New York City.

Jeff Hosler '02 joined the Alma College Athletics staff as the Scots women's soccer coach in 2006 and has helped the Maroon and Cream rise as one of the most talented young teams in the MIAA.

In his time at Alma, Hosler became one of the best players in the 30 years of Scots soccer. He remains the all-time assists leader and ranks in the top ten in career goals and in the top five in career points. He helped the Scots to their second MIAA title, first-ever NCAA Regional Championship and first-ever NCAA Final Four appearance in 1999 en route to first team All-MIAA and third team All-Mideast Region honors. He would go on to earn first team All-MIAA accolades again in 2001 and was named to the conference's second team in 2000.
