Scots Earn NSCAA Team Academic Award

ALMA, Mich. - Alma College women's soccer has been recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for outstanding academic achievement as the organization awarded the Scots the team academic award for the 2004 season.

In addition to the team academic award, the Scots were recognized by the NSCAA for sportsmanship and ethics. The team earned the Silver Award for Ethics and Sportsmanship - the qualification for this award was the low number of yellow cards handed to the Scots this season.

Alma ended the season with a 7-12-1 overall record and an MIAA record of 6-9-1.

 

The Corporation for National and Community Service named Alma College to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll With Distinction for exemplary service efforts and service to disadvantaged youth. The Honor Roll is the highest federal recognition a school can achieve for its commitment to service-learning and civic engagement.

Jeff Hosler '02 joined the Alma College Athletics staff as the Scots women's soccer coach in 2006 and has helped the Maroon and Cream rise as one of the most talented young teams in the MIAA.

In his time at Alma, Hosler became one of the best players in the 30 years of Scots soccer. He remains the all-time assists leader and ranks in the top ten in career goals and in the top five in career points. He helped the Scots to their second MIAA title, first-ever NCAA Regional Championship and first-ever NCAA Final Four appearance in 1999 en route to first team All-MIAA and third team All-Mideast Region honors. He would go on to earn first team All-MIAA accolades again in 2001 and was named to the conference's second team in 2000.
