WOMEN'S GOLF FINISHES IN 7TH AT MIAA JAMBOREE #2

The 2008 Alma Women's Golf team on Saturday participated in the MIAA Jamboree #2 hosted by Trine at Zollner Golf Club. Alma finished with a team score of 373, finishing in seventh place ahead of Adrian and Calvin.

The Scots were led by Sarah Caverly who finished tied for 19th (out of 58 golfers) with an 18-hole score of 85 and Jessica Kennard who was 23rd with a score of 87.

Next up for Alma is the MIAA Jamboree #3 on Wednesday that will be hosted by Calvin at Thornapple Pointe Golf Club beginning at 1:00 p.m. The final Jamboree will take place on Tuesday, September 30 at Lenawee Country Club, hosted by Adrian with a tee time of 1:00 p.m.

The MIAA Championships will take place on Friday-Saturday, October 10-11 at Bedford Valley Golf Club.

 

Alma's "green" residence hall, Wright Hall, was completed in January 2005. The modern, 60-bed apartment-style hall features a number of environmentally friendly features, including geothermal heating and cooling, recycled-content ceiling tiles and carpeting, energy-efficient windows, rooftop solar heating panels, energy-efficient showers and washing machines, and a computerized energy monitoring system.

 

Coach Profile

Gordon Aldrich

Gordon Aldrich was a late addition to the Alma College Coaching Staff in the summer of 2007. Coach Aldrich has joined the Alma College Family as the Cross Country and Track and Field Head Coach.

During his 26 years as a varsity Boy’s and Girl’s Cross Country Coach, Aldrich has won a Girls Open State Championship (1978), a Girls State Championship (1995), two Boy’s State Championships (1994, 1997), and was Runner-up on seven other occasions. During the same time, Aldrich coached teams to 17 conference championships, was nominated for the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association Coach of the Year 12 times for cross country, and walked away with the award four times (1994, 1995, 1996, and 1998). He was also named the Boy’s Cross Country National Coach of the Year in 1999 by the National Federation Interscholastic Coaches Association.

Aldrich was also honored with Michigan High School Coaches Association Track Coach of the Year in 1985 and 1998, and has received the Charles Sweeney Michigan Coaches Hall of Fame Track and Field Award.
