SCOTS JUNIOR WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FORWARD MEAGAN HOBLET GARNERS MIAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK RECOGINITION

ROYAL OAK, MI – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Alma College center Meagan Hoblet and Hope College guard Jenny Cowen its Players of the Week in women’s basketball.

Hoblet, a junior from Cadillac (Cadillac HS), scored 32 points as the Scots split a pair of games last week. She scored 14 points in a 68-47 loss to Albion, then came back with 18 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots in leading the Scots to a 63-61 win over Adrian. For the week, Hoblet made 13-of-24 shots (54 percent) from the field and 6-of-8 (75 percent) from the free-throw line.

Cowen, a junior from Dexter (Dexter HS), scored 35 points in leading the Flying Dutch to two wins and an outright MIAA championship. She scored nine points in a 102-52 defeat of Olivet, then poured in 26 points, including the go-ahead 3-point basket with less than a minute remaining, and grabbed nine rebounds as Hope rallied to defeat Calvin 68-65. For the week, Cowen made 12-of-24 from the field (50 percent), 5-of-9 from 3-point range (56 percent) and 6-of-7 from the line (86 percent).

 

 

Alma College students report levels of educational experiences and faculty interaction that exceed the national norms by significant amounts, according to the findings of the 2007 National Survey of Student Engagement. In the 2006 study, Alma students reported a level of interaction with faculty that ranked among the top five percent in the nation.

Jeff Hosler

Jeff Hosler ‘02 joined the Alma College Athletics staff as the Scots women’s soccer coach in 2006 and has helped the Maroon and Cream rise as one of the most talented young teams in the MIAA.

In his time at Alma, Hosler became one of the best players in the 30 years of Scots soccer. He remains the all-time assists leader and ranks in the top ten in career goals and in the top five in career points. He helped the Scots to their second MIAA title, first-ever NCAA Regional Championship and first-ever NCAA Final Four appearance in 1999 en route to first team All-MIAA and third team All-Mideast Region honors. He would go on to earn first team All-MIAA accolades again in 2001 and was named to the conference’s second team in 2000.
