ALMA WOMEN'S HOOPS LOSE TO SEINA HEIGHTS UNIVERSITY ON SATURDAY

The Alma Women’s Basketball team traveled to Siena Heights University on Saturday, in search of its first victory of the 2008-09 season, but found the hosts not very hospitable. The Scots dropped a 68-49 decision to the NAIA Saints to fall to 0-4 on the year while SHU improved to 3-4..

Alma was again plagued by a tough afternoon of shooting as the Scots shot 31% from the field in the first half, 30% in the second half and finished at 31% for the game. The Scots trailed 43-28 after the initial frame but played the Saints hard in the second half as they shot just 29% and were held to 25 points.

Meagan Hoblet paced Alma with 13 points (six of 15 shooting), eight total rebounds and four blocked shots, while Lacey Best-Rowden finished in double figures as well with ten points. Kathryn Bigelow added eight rebounds and led the team with three steals on the defensive side of the ball. Best-Rowden and Bigelow also led the team with three assists a piece in the contest.

Siena Heights shot just 36% from the field, but did outrebound the Scots by a final margin of 50-37, including a 20-8 advantage on the offensive boards, for the game. The Saints also bested Alma in team assists by a mark of 18-10.

The Scots’ next opportunity for their first win of the season will be on Wednesday, December 3, when Alma travels to Concordia College for a 7:00 p.m. game.
