WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Ashley Matuzak Named MIAA Player of the Week

Feb. 3, 2008

Alma, Mi.- For the second time in her outstanding career at Alma College, senior Ashley Matuzak (Saginaw/Nouvel C.C.) was honored by being named the MIAA Player of the Week.

On her way to leading the Scots to back to back MIAA wins, Matuzak put up a pair of double-doubles including an 18 point, 12 rebound performance over Kalamazoo and a 16 point 10 board outing against Olivet College.

The week also saw Matuzak regain her stroke as she shot over 50 percent from the field and from behind the three point line.  She now sits at 976 career points and will look to break the 1,000 point mark this week as the Scots travel to Saint Mary's College and Adrian College.

Alma is one of seven Michigan colleges and universities to hold membership in the Omicron Delta Kappa Society, the national leadership society that recognizes and encourages superior scholarship, leadership and exemplary character.
