WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Meagan Hoblet Named MIAA Player of the Week

Alma, Mi. - Alma College sophomore Meagan Hoblet was named the Week 1 MIAA Player of the Week after having an outstanding weekend for the Scots at the Anderson Tournament. 

Hoblet was voted to the all-tournament team as the Scots split a pair of season-opening games at the Anderson, Ind. tournament. Hoblet had a double-double with 29 points and 16 rebounds in a 60-52 double overtime loss to Baldwin-Wallace. She followed with 12 points and nine rebounds in a 62-59 victory over Marian. In the games she shot 16-for-34 and was 9-for-12 on free throws. She had 25 rebounds, 19 on the defensive board. Against Marian she played 39 of the game's 40 minutes. For the weekend she had only three turnovers over 85 minutes. She had four assists, two blocks and three steals.

 

Alma College’s partnership with the Pine River Superfund Citizen Task Force, an EPA-sanctioned Community Advisory Group (CAG), received the 2008 Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Partnership Award for Campus-Community Collaboration, sponsored by Michigan Campus Compact.The Task Force is recognized as one of the most influential and active CAGs nationally and as having the largest membership of any CAG in the United States.

Charlie Goffnett

One of the top Division III coaches in the nation, Charlie Goffnett has built the Alma women's basketball program into a national powerhouse. With three MIAA titles, five NCAA Tournament berths and one national championship under his belt, Goffnett is one of the most accomplished coaches in the nation.

Charlie Goffnett began coaching the women's golf team in 1990. As head coach, he has established a competitive program that is always on or near the top of the MIAA standings. In 1997, the Scots captured their third MIAA title under Goffnett's guidance.
