Ashley Matuzak A First Team All-MIAA Selection

ALMA, Mich. - Junior Ashley Matuzak (Saginaw/Nouvel Catholic) has been named a first team All-MIAA player for the first time in her career, the conference office announced today (Feb. 26).

Matuzak led the Scots to a 10-14 overall record and a 6-10 mark in league play to finish sixth in the league. She averaged 15.5 points per game, starting all 24 games of the season. She led the team in scoring average and in rebounding, pulling down 7.1 boards per game. Her .458 field goal percentage was second on the team. She ended the season fourth in the league in scoring average and fifth in rebounding.

Teammates sophomore Heather Keenan (Charlotte) and freshman Megan Hoblet (Cadillac) each received honorable mention All-MIAA honors.

Keenan was 14th in the MIAA in scoring, averaging 10.3 points per game while Hoblet averaged 9.1 and was 17th in the league. Hoblet also averaged five rebounds per game while shooting .511 from the field. That .511 proved to be third-best in the league for the 2006-07 season while Keenan was seventh in assists averaging three per game.

Calvin's Lisa Winkle was named the MIAA Most Valuable Player and Hope's Julie Henderson was Defensive Player of the Year. Matuzak was joined on the first team by Albion's Jessica Babcok, Hope's Jordyn Boles and Ellen Wood, Olivet's Audrey Graham, Calvin's Marcia Harris and Lisa WInkle and Saint Mary's Alison Kessler.

Charlie Goffnett

One of the top Division III coaches in the nation, Charlie Goffnett has built the Alma women's basketball program into a national powerhouse. With three MIAA titles, five NCAA Tournament berths and one national championship under his belt, Goffnett is one of the most accomplished coaches in the nation.

Charlie Goffnett began coaching the women's golf team in 1990. As head coach, he has established a competitive program that is always on or near the top of the MIAA standings. In 1997, the Scots captured their third MIAA title under Goffnett's guidance.
